Caroline Grant

Life pulls us in so many directions, sometimes it can be difficult to figure out what we actually want. Outside expectations and opinions have a way of growing louder than our own feelings and values, and anxiety often takes their place. No one should feel like they are living only to please others. Life and relationships can feel so challenging at times, but you already have the strengths within you that you need to grow and succeed, and I’m here to help you find them.

Hi, my name is Caroline Grant. I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Therapist at Mathews Counseling, and I am passionate about helping individuals, families, and couples process a variety of life experiences, navigate their way through challenging situations, and grow into the people they want to be so that they can start living the life they want to live. I strive to create a safe space for all of my clients so that we can make meaningful progress together. I see therapy as a collaborative process, but one that can only work if you are as committed to doing the work as I am to supporting you. I believe that you are the expert in your own life and that you already have all the tools you need to succeed, and that I am just here to help you make sense of your experiences and find confidence in your capabilities as an individual, couple, or family.

I work with a diverse group of individuals, couples, and families. I am most passionate about working with marginalized populations and those who are struggling to navigate challenging interpersonal relationships and societal expectations. As you begin to unpack and understand your experiences, it will become easier for you to stop them from negatively impacting your life and your relationships. Whether you come to me as an individual, a couple, or a family, once you start utilizing your strengths and the skills that we learn together, you will see yourself grow and your life begin to align with your purpose and your passions.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (LMFTA), and I graduated with my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University in May of 2026. As a student, I interned with Mathews Counseling for a year and a half, offering 500+ hours of therapy. I got my Bachelors degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University with a minor in Criminology in 2023. As an undergraduate, I worked as a research assistant in the Social Development Lab to better understand how our experiences impact our growth and knowledge. My ideal client is one that is committed to growing, just as much as I am committed to supporting that growth.

I was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family and our many pets – dogs, a cat, and chickens! I also love to read, and am always happy to recommend a good book. Despite my alma mater, I am a Tar Heel born and bred and I love to spend my free time cheering on the heels!

Caroline is a therapist and meets with clients through Telehealth and in-person in Durham.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
