Mady Caplan

It can be hard to know who you are when you have been repressed for so long. When you have been told who you can and cannot be, and how to show up in the world, it can be overwhelming to navigate adulthood and make your own decisions.

When your beliefs shift or evolve, it can feel like the ground is crumbling beneath your feet. It is scary to be honest when you have hidden and performed in order to survive. But you deserve to know yourself, accept yourself exactly as you are today, and hold onto hope for who you will become tomorrow. You can learn to trust your inner voice and make room for every version of yourself.

Hi, my name is Mady Caplan. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) here at Mathews Counseling, and I am passionate about helping individuals and couples move towards wholeness and healing. In therapy, you can tell your story and be heard. I see therapy as a collaborative effort in which we co-create a safe space where you can be radically honest with yourself about who you most authentically are. This serves as a springboard for meaningful connection with others in your life.

I work with adults and couples, and I am particularly passionate about emerging adulthood, queer individuals, and queer couples. I work with folks with ADHD, anxiety, and identity concerns. I also work with those navigating shame and grief. Telling your story and being received by an empathetic listener has the power to unlock self-compassion. As you connect more deeply to yourself, you will begin to connect more deeply with those around you.

I received my B.A. in Psychology from NC State University and my Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. I am a people person and really enjoy quality time with my friends, family, and partner, Bree. I love live music, running, and being outside. I can often be found on a blanket journaling or reading.

I want to work with you because you deserve someone to witness the beauty, pain, and everyday moments of your life, and to be your guide as you journey towards self-love and connection. What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
