Emone Black
We all feel stuck at times in our lives, regardless of our age or background. It may even seem like the world is falling apart or everything is too much to handle. These feelings can be overwhelming for children, teens, and adults alike.
Hi! My name is Emone Black. I’m a therapist here at Mathews Counseling, and I’m passionate about helping children and teens learn to regulate their emotions and behaviors. I’m equally committed to supporting adults as they work to overcome their struggles and find a sense of balance.
I enjoy helping people—children, teens, and adults alike—discover ways to get unstuck and move forward. Many people imagine therapy as lying on a couch and sharing secrets with a stranger. While the idea of therapy can feel intimidating at first, I work hard to create a space where you feel comfortable and truly heard.
I believe therapy is a collaborative journey: you’re the author of your story, and I’m here to support you along the way. Together, we’ll identify the barriers to your goals and explore new perspectives on your challenges. A fresh set of eyes or thoughtful questions can make all the difference in finding solutions. I tailor my counseling approach to meet your specific needs, drawing from person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, and motivational interviewing. The therapeutic process is like growing a plant—it takes preparation, care, and nurturing for it to bloom.
There will be ups and downs, and that’s okay! I’ll be here to guide you through those moments, helping you make lasting changes. When working with children and teens, I focus on advocating for their needs while involving parents in the process. Your participation not only enhances the work we do in therapy but can also strengthen your relationship with your child or teen outside of our sessions.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA). I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Child Development and Family Relations, as well as a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and Career Counseling, from North Carolina Central University. When I’m not working, I enjoy baking, crafting, watching anime, reading manga, and relaxing.
Emone is a therapist and meets with clients through Telehealth.
