Life can feel overwhelming, unfair, and hopeless at times, and expressing your pain can seem impossible. You might wonder, “How can anyone understand what I’m going through?”
But you don’t have to face this journey alone.
Life can feel overwhelming, unfair, and hopeless at times, and expressing your pain can seem impossible. You might wonder, “How can anyone understand what I’m going through?”
But you don’t have to face this journey alone.
Hi, my name is Michael Anders, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) at Mathews Counseling. I am passionate about helping teenagers and young adults heal, survive, and thrive in these challenging times. I specialize in managing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and interpersonal communication.
As your therapist, I aim to be a consistent and stable source of security, introspection, and support. I believe therapy is a privilege, as it allows me to work closely with individuals and learn the most precious details of their lives.
The journey of therapy is not linear; there will be great days and challenging ones. While therapy may not completely eliminate the challenging days, it provides tools and skills to make those days easier. Therapy can be revealing and scary, as it involves replacing lifelong behaviors and patterns. However, this process can lead to an incredible future you never thought possible.
In partnership with me, you won’t have to face these challenges alone. I use evidence-supported methods and believe in “meeting clients where they are.” Every person has unique circumstances, and treatment should be tailored to their realities.
I primarily work with children, teens, and young adults of all backgrounds and identities.
As your confidence grows and you begin to see things from new perspectives, your optimism and abilities will flourish. The opportunity to change, feel better, heal, and repair won’t seem as hopeless as it once did. You may feel more secure about your future, your relationships, and your self-perception. The path to reclaiming your power comes with many challenges but also many rewards.
I received my B.A. in Psychology and Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have volunteered in educational settings, public schools, and as a mentor for at-risk youth. I have worked as a tennis instructor and with junior players from various backgrounds and abilities.
My graduate-level internships included brief intervention for college students to help with harm reduction for alcohol and other substances, as well as clinical practice here at Mathews Counseling.
In my free time, I’m an avid gamer, music producer, and cook.
I haven’t met you yet, but I know you have the power to change your life.
