When no one seems to understand you, you feel invisible and alone in the world; it can be overwhelming. It can be exhausting when you are anxious about getting through a stressful day and depressed about your past or present relationships. It might seem like your problems are too much for others and you have no one to rely on. Life’s changes and transitions can leave us feeling lost. But no one should feel alone, invisible, and misunderstood. Your life matters and your story is important.
Hi. My name is Olivia Vallecillo. I’m a therapist here at Mathews Counseling, and I am passionate about helping you find your value, purpose, and confidence.
I want you to feel seen, heard, and important because you are. Therapy is a collaborative process where I attempt to walk around in your shoes and see the world through your eyes. We explore your world together. I believe personal problems happen in the context of your life experience, so I want to make sure we look at your relationships, environment, and family background to understand your complexity to better understand how to achieve your goals. Your gender, identity, and background make a difference in life, and I will honor those aspects of who you are.
I work with individuals, both adults and children ages 5-12. I am bilingual and am happy to work with Spanish-speaking clients. As you discover what makes you unique and use the personalized tools we find together in therapy, I believe you’ll begin to feel more connected to the healthiest, authentic you and live more fully. You will heal and mend from what life has brought your way.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Board-Certified Counselor. I have a graduate certificate in Multicultural Counseling and an M.A. in School Counseling from Appalachian State University. My passion for counseling started with my work with immigrant and refugee children who experienced trauma and culture shock due to their family’s transition to the United States. I have over ten years of experience working with families and children in a school setting.
My husband and I live in the mountains of NC with our beautiful ten-year-old daughter, one feisty Scottish terrier, and two comical parakeets. On a personal note, I am an amateur writer, love a good cup of hot tea and a lively salsa dance. I believe in long nature walks to clear the mind and have an extensive collection of aromatherapy oils. I think you matter in your remarkable complexity, and your unique story matters. I would love the opportunity to hear your story and help you rewrite parts of that story if you wish.

I look forward to working with you.
