Macks Massengill

Do you ever feel like you have to shrink parts of yourself just to fit in? Maybe you’ve felt pressure to act a certain way to be accepted—or like you have to mask who you really are to feel seen by others. You’re not alone. I believe it’s possible to find connection, direction, and belonging without losing your authentic self—and I’d be honored to walk alongside you as you explore what that looks like.

Hi, I’m Macks Massengill. I’m a therapist at Mathews Counseling, and I care deeply about helping people live fuller, more honest lives. In therapy, I focus on building a relationship with you where your voice matters. I help you uncover the strengths you already carry and support you as you clarify where you want to go, what feels true to you, and how to move toward a life that feels more satisfying and self-defined. We collaborate every step of the way—but you’re always in the driver’s seat.

I work with adolescents and adults and enjoy hearing the stories of people from many different backgrounds. Some of the common concerns I help with include anxiety, depression, identity exploration, and relationship difficulties. I also have a special interest in working with neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients. Therapy is a space where you can begin to feel confident in what makes you unique—and from there, unlock the possibilities that feel most aligned with who you are.

I’m a licensed clinical mental health counselor and a nationally certified counselor. I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from NC State and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Campbell University. My clinical training included supporting law students at Campbell’s law school in downtown Raleigh, helping them navigate intense academic and career pressure. Before becoming a therapist, I also worked as a mentor and cognitive skills trainer for academically struggling teens.

In my free time, I love discovering niche movies and video games—the kind of art that speaks to people who’ve often felt left behind by the mainstream. I also enjoy going on adventures with friends to places I’ve never been before. If this resonates with you, I’d be happy to connect and support you in becoming more fully yourself.

Macks is a therapist and meets with clients through Telehealth and in-person in Cary.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
