Kimberly Knight

When you find yourself not on the same page as your partner or you have challenges with finding a work/life balance, I’m here to support you. Sometimes talking about challenges in life can help us rediscover our strengths. That’s where I come in to provide the support and resources that may help you along the way.

When you notice that you are having difficulties coming up with a solution, there are therapists like me here to support you along the way. Therapy can provide educational resources, insight on what you may not see, and a confidential safe space where you can be yourself.

Hello there. My name is Kimberly Knight. I’m a therapist here at Mathews Counseling. I became a therapist to provide ethical support and creative educational resources to everyday people dealing with challenges in life.

I believe therapy can be a beneficial experience when there is an established rapport between the therapist and client(s). My approach is client centered which means I focus on managing ways to support the client on their therapeutic journey. I like to present a safe, confidential therapeutic environment for my clients so they can be authentic about their goals.

I work with a variety of populations, including but not limited to adult individuals, teens, families, and couples. That also includes LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and the aging population of 60 years and older. I enjoy working with clients to see their full potential by providing them with the clinical interventions and resources they need to see an impact in their mental health and wellbeing.

To give you a little more insight about me, I have a Master of Social Work degree from North Carolina Central University, I’m a licensed clinical social worker-associate, a certified grief and loss group facilitator through Columbia University School of Social Work, and I see clients for clinical sex therapy. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a HIV/STI disease interventionist for UNC-Chapel and served for nearly 10 years as an education professional for Durham Public Schools. Each of these experiences has supported my journey of providing ethical and creative educational support to my clients.

Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy being an influencer/blogger, budding documentarian, traveling with loved ones, walks with my dog, and trying new vegetarian or pescatarian recipes. I enjoy an engaging podcast, inspiring Ted Talk, or informational documentary.

I look forward to working together.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
