Jessica Hoon

When life feels heavy—when anxiety, grief, or relationship struggles start to dim your sense of peace—it can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and the people you love. You might be carrying so much that it’s hard to see a way forward, even when you’ve tried to stay strong for everyone else. It’s exhausting to keep going without feeling truly seen or understood.

But you don’t have to keep doing this alone. You deserve a space where you can breathe, unpack what’s been weighing on you, and find your way back to yourself.

Hi, I’m Jessica, and I’m a therapist at Mathews Counseling. I’m passionate about helping people rediscover their strength, rebuild trust in themselves, and create lives that feel genuine and balanced. Whether you’re an individual navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or self-doubt, or even just trying to reconnect and communicate with compassion inside your relationships, I believe in meeting you exactly where you are—with warmth, curiosity, and care.

In therapy, I see our work together as a partnership. You are the expert on your own story, and my role is to walk beside you, helping you explore patterns, emotions, and possibilities with honesty and compassion. Together, we’ll focus on building insight and tools that help you move from simply surviving to truly living.

I work with adults and teens from all walks of life—especially those who feel stuck between wanting change and not knowing where to start. I also enjoy working with creatives, highly sensitive people, and anyone who’s learning to navigate chronic illness, depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, or big life transitions.

Success, to me, looks like you trusting your own voice again. It’s when you feel more grounded, more connected to yourself and others, and when daily life starts to feel lighter—because you’ve learned to care for yourself in ways that actually work.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University. My background also includes years of experience with personal mental health struggles and chronic illness, as well as supporting people through major life transitions, trauma recovery, and self-growth.

Outside of therapy, I love painting, cooking, and spending quiet time with my two cats, Boo and Teddy, and my lovely partner.

If you’re ready to start your own journey toward balance and peace, I’d be honored to walk with you.

Jessica is a therapist and meets clients for in-person and telehealth sessions.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
