Emone Black

Children and teens can have a hard time managing their emotions or behaviors and in turn, it can be a challenge for you, their parent, as well. Together, you and I can help them learn to manage these new challenges so that they will have a less difficult time as an adult. When challenges from childhood go unmanaged, it can be hard to navigate life in adulthood. I will help support you in exploring your past and present to help your future.

Sometimes we have tried all that we thought we could do and are not sure what to do next. I am here to help you find new ways of viewing those challenges to overcome them.

Hi! My name is Emone Black. I am a therapist here at Mathews Counseling, and I am passionate about helping children and teens find ways to regulate their emotions and/or behaviors. I am also passionate about helping adults find ways to overcome their burdens.

When I ask people how they imagine therapy, they think about laying on a couch and spilling all their secrets to a stranger. While therapy can initially feel scary, I do my best to make you feel comfortable and heard throughout our sessions. Trust is key in the sessions and what I continue to build with you. I see therapy as a collaborative approach where you are the author and I help support you along the way. My counseling approaches involve person-centered, cognitive behavioral, play, and motivational interviewing.

I primarily work with children and teens and with parents as a means to help their child/teen.

I also enjoy working with college students and adults.

The work we will do together can be seen as growing a plant. There are steps taken to prep and nurture a plant in order for it to bloom. It will take time to see changes and there may even be some not so good days. That is okay and expected! I help you to not give up and to continue forward and soon the changes will stick. For children and teens, it is important I have you, the guardian, involved in a small manner. This could look like helping them practice their coping tools outside the session. Your involvement in the therapeutic journey will help me to help your child or teen.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Child Development and Family Relations from North Carolina Central University. I continued to stay there to receive my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and Career Counseling.

On my days off, I enjoy relaxing, painting, watching anime, reading manga, and trying new hobbies.

I am available Monday through Friday and offer both in-person and Telehealth. If you wish to schedule an appointment with me, give our office a call at 919-587-8018 or request an appointment online at mathewscounseling.net.

I look forward to working with you.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
