No matter where you are in life currently, you have undoubtedly faced challenges and difficulty. If you are coping with past trauma, you may notice situations in the past may be playing a role in your current concerns or significantly impacting your life and relationships. Regardless of what you have experienced, I believe you are capable of moving forward with courage and resilience. I seek to provide you with a safe space to share your story and to write them together.
Hi! My name is Emily Kouba and I’m a therapist at Mathews Counseling.
I believe the client-therapist relationship should be collaborative, trusting, and authentic. I hope to connect with my clients by truly meeting them where they are, free of judgement and assumptions. I hope to provide a space where they can voice and process things they may not be able to anywhere else in their lives.
I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with issues related to trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, women’s health issues and improving interpersonal relationships. Feelings of shame, guilt, and worries for the future hold you back from knowing and achieving what you want for your life. My goal is that through our work together, you will be able to recognize and change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to those troublesome feelings that prevent you from moving forward with the confidence and resilience you are capable of.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker- Associate. I graduated with my Masters of Social Work from North Carolina State University. I have experience working with teenagers and adults experiencing mental health crises, providing grief counseling, as well as working with children implementing school based behavioral interventions.
When I am not working, I love to be outside! I love the southeast because I can make short trips to mountains and to the coast with my pup, May and my partner, Stuart. I love to run and participate in road races regularly. I also love to bake, read, listen to podcasts, and trying new restaurants with family and friends!
Deciding to reach out for help and support is taking the first step toward better mental and emotional wellness, I look forward to starting the process together!
To begin the process, you can schedule an appointment with me online at mathewscounseling.net or by calling the office at 919-587-8018.
