Duncan Bordeaux
Change is a difficult part of life, and big transitions can sometimes leave you feeling lost and alone. It can even feel like the whole world is against you and nobody understands what you are going through. When we feel this way, our relationships can suffer, and we can begin to doubt ourselves and who we are.
I believe however, that transition is a natural and healthy part of life that can be met with strength, authenticity, and resilience, and that therapy should be a trusting relationship that helps you discover and live into your most authentic and resilient self.
Hi. My name is Duncan Bordeaux, and I am a licensed clinical social worker associate and therapist here at Mathews Counseling. I am passionate about being a guide to young people and adults as they walk a path towards growth, self-acceptance, and the life they want to lead.
In therapy, I seek to build a relationship with you that we can use to establish your future goals and the skills to help you achieve them, develop tools for navigating tough relationships, and shed a little clarity on the chaos of life’s changes and transitions. I endeavor to help you discover and utilize the strengths that you already possess and to guide you through breaking out of patterns that no longer serve you.
I work with young people, adolescents, adults, and families of all configurations, with a special focus on the LGBTQIA+ community. I have experience working with clients from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well a passion for creating safe and healthy spaces for people to explore themselves and their relationships.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from North Carolina State University. I have extensive experience working with youth and adolescents in a wilderness therapy setting, as well as experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and families from my master’s internship with the LGBT Center of Raleigh. I have a background in social work and bring with me more than six years of trauma-informed training and experience that has taught me to empower and guide a wide range of clients towards success.
I am a Raleigh/Cary native and grew up in Apex. In my free time I enjoy gaming, (both video gaming and tabletop), storytelling, woodworking, and camping when I get the chance. I love cooking and developing new recipes, especially when I can do so with the help of friends. My music taste varies wildly week to week, and I generally like to try new things whether it be food, music, books or movies. I am also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and spend my time acting as an advocate for that community in any way I can.
If I sound like a good fit for you, I would love to hear your story and I look forward to working with you.
