Chiodera Drayton-Smith

Sometimes everyday tasks can seem overwhelming, difficult, and maybe even impossible. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, ADHD, or something you’re not even sure what it’s called, that feeling of not being in control of your own life is hard to navigate. But, you are worthy and deserving of having a fruitful life that you are in control of.

Hi there! My name is Chiodera Drayton-Smith, and I’m a therapist here at Mathews Counseling. I became a therapist to help children, teens, and young adults find their way in the world as they navigate growing up, life transitions, and the challenges everyday life can bring.

For me, I see therapy as a collaborative approach. Therapy is more than just lying on a couch while I ask, “And how does that make you feel?” Therapy requires that we work together, trust one another, and respect that therapy is a process. We both want to see you reach and achieve your therapeutic goals, and I need your help by actively participating in sessions to make that happen. I’ll know I’ve done my job right when you, as my client, feel as though you are making the steps you want to see towards your goals. Big or small, your progress is progress and deserves to be celebrated.

As for a bit about me professionally, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate. I graduated with my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, I also obtained my Juris Doctor (my law degree). Over the years, I have worked with children in the child welfare system, children in the delinquency system, survivors of child abuse and sex crimes, survivors of domestic violence, and families as they navigate divorce and child custody.

In my personal time, I enjoy working out, singing, scrolling for way too long on TikTok, and spending time with my friends and family.

I hope we get to work together soon; I’m looking forward to your success and happiness.

I look forward to working together.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
