Ashley Pender

Stressors of everyday life and unexpected events can often bring anxiety and unrest to our lives, often leaving us feeling lost or alone. Trying to find ways to cope during these difficult times is not always easy and we should not have to navigate through the healing process alone.

Hi, my name is Ashley Pender. I am a clinical mental health counseling intern here at Mathews Counseling and I have a great passion in helping individuals find meaning and become the best version of themselves despite the difficulties life may bring. With therapy, together we can collectively work through these life stressors and find insight while discovering effective coping strategies. Our journey together will be a safe, nonjudgmental place for you to be yourself. I will integrate an eclectic counseling approach to best fit your needs as a client.

I work with a diverse group, including children, teens, and adults. I have previously worked in the medical field, and I have experience working with individuals of all ages, in different stages of their lives.

A little bit about me, I was born and raised in North Carolina, originally from Charlotte. I’m currently working on my master’s degree in counseling at Liberty University. I received my B.S. in community health education from Southern New Hampshire University. I also have a medical background, working as a certified medical assistant for over 6 years. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, making flower arrangements, baking, and playing board games with my children.

I’m currently taking new clients for both in-person and Telehealth appointments. I’m practicing as a clinical intern under the supervision of both Dr. Adaria Warner, LMFT, and Amber Green, LCMHC.

If I seem like a good fit for you, give our office a call at 919-587-8018 or request an appointment with me online at

I look forward to working with you.

Ashley is currently scheduling new clients and has both in-person and telehealth appointments available. She also offers a reduced fee for sessions.

What our clients are saying about Mathews Counseling therapists

“Therapy was tough, but in a good way. It challenged both my husband and me to think about how each of us interacts in the marriage.”

“After seeing several counselors elsewhere, this was the first time I felt genuinely heard and understood.”

“My husband was worried about the therapist “taking sides”, which doesn’t happen.  It’s a collaborative conversation and we are delving into other issues that were not readily on the surface.”
