At times, you may feel as though the world is moving around you as you stand still but you remain active and productive, so no one is the wiser. Under the surface, you may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or even suicidal thoughts. You may be wrestling with trauma or struggling with your spirituality. You may feel as though you are invisible to the common eye, but I see you. I see you standing still, feeling stuck, and I want to help get you moving again. No one deserves to feel invisible.
Hi there. My name is Ashley Nash. I am a therapist here at Mathews Counseling, and I have a passion for assisting individuals as they become more aware of themselves and their behaviors.
I work to learn who you are as a person before I work to learn what brought you into counseling. There will be times where I may challenge you and every moment in counseling won’t be comfortable. I believe and work from the idea that “there is no growth in comfort, nor is there comfort in growth”. I expect my clients to be honest in this setting and active in their treatment plan.
I enjoy working with teens, young adults, and adults in individual and small group settings. At any stage of our lives, we can begin to question our identities and how they fit into the rest of the world while remaining true to ourselves. I believe that change is one of the only constant things in the world and I have a desire for assisting others during their changing seasons.
As you become more aware of how your past thoughts impact your current thoughts and behaviors, you gain more access to your true self. We are human beings, not robots and our actions are connected with what we think about ourselves and the world around us. Success in therapy mirrors being able to know yourself, know why you do the things that you do, and know-how to better control your thoughts and behaviors.
I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from South Carolina State University and my master’s degree in counseling from Saybrook University. I am currently finishing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education at North Carolina State University. My research interests are transgenerational trauma, more specifically how transgenerational trauma impacts Black women; working with connecting minority populations to mental health resources; gendered racism; and economic inequalities. I am a Certified Therapeutic Art Life Coach and a published novelist. I have worked in the mental health field since 2015 and have worked in settings such as a therapeutic boarding school, in-home therapy, K-12 schools, and a university counseling center.
I am originally from South Carolina and lived there for 21 years before moving to California and then North Carolina. I was introduced to pain at an early age and did not attempt to heal in the most positive way. Now I try to “Be the person you needed when you were younger”. It is my deepest desire to assist others as they heal themselves. I work to offer that assistance in the most compassionate way possible by providing a space for unbiased, non-judgmental transparency.
I want to see you and apply that sight to assist you in being the best version of yourself. Call Mathews Counseling today at (919) 587-8018 or book an appointment with me online at mathewscounseling.net and let’s get started.
I look forward to working with you.
Ashley is currently scheduling new clients and has availability Monday through Saturday with evening appointments available. She is scheduling both in-person and online appointments.
