Ashley Abert

I know life sometimes feels like a scary roller coaster you never wanted to ride.  It can be fun and joyful, but is often times scary and unsettling, with steep drops, and unexpected twists and turns.  Sometimes you find yourself so worried about the next drop, that you can’t enjoy the climb.

Roller coasters are always a little less intimidating when you have someone riding along with you, helping you see things from a higher vantage point- providing calm and clarity.  No one should be left to ride alone.

Hi. My name is Ashley Costley.  I’m a therapist here at Mathews Counseling, and I find joy in helping individuals and couples get back on track.

Whether you’re struggling individually, or in your relationship, it is my desire to help you grow and shift thought patterns or unhelpful behaviors so that you can feel confident and connected in the world around you.

During therapy sessions, you’re in charge.  We will move at a pace that is comfortable and safe for you.  We’ll unearth negative core beliefs and unhelpful thinking that keep you from living your best life.  After we’ve built a strong therapeutic relationship, be ready to be encouraged, challenged, and supported as you strive toward your goals.

I work with adolescents, young adults, women and men, and couples. I help you develop the tools you need to navigate obstacles and uncertainty in your day-to-day life. And I help you find the confidence to use them.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Winthrop University and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University.  I am also an EMDR trained therapist. Before recently moving to the Raleigh area, I have been practicing at Palmetto Counseling Associates in my hometown of Columbia, South Carolina.

I am married and have a 2-year-old son, Levi.  My husband and I love a good live music show and, as a family, we love exploring new parks, markets, and cities.  Being silly and singing constantly is a must in our household.  Catching us all dancing around the kitchen while making pancakes, isn’t out of the norm either.  I love all things “crunchy”, so if you’re into holistic approaches to health, medicine, babies, etc. feel free to share your tips and tricks!

I know therapy can be intimidating, but if you’re open to growth (and a good laugh here and there), I’ll provide a safe and encouraging space for healing exploration.

Currently, I have daytime and nighttime availability throughout the week and limited hours on Saturday. I also offer Multi-Session Packages. If it sounds like we would be a good fit, call Mathews Counseling today at (919) 587-8018 or book an appointment online.

I look forward to working with you.
