Do you ever go through periods of hopelessness and feeling empty? Or just feeling this sense of sadness for no reason as well as being drained of all energy, even if you just laid in bed all day? These feelings can be overwhelming and exhausting to deal with- especially on an everyday basis. And when you have tried everything you can to make it stop and to try to get better, nothing seems to work. That might be depression. Nobody ever wants to admit that they are depressed, but being able to name the reason you’re feeling like this is the first step to healing. Lets help you get unstuck, and move out of this hopeless cycle of despair. You can start by getting screened today.
At Mathews Counseling, our goal is to help you live your best life in your truest form. We want to help you tackle any obstacle that stands in the way of your mental health. We strongly encourage anyone who feels this sense of hopelessness to get screened. But, it is important to remember that screening is not a professional diagnosis, it just point out the presence of depressive symptoms. The sooner you get help and treatment from a professional, the sooner you will heal.
Why Screening Is Important:
October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month which began as a way to reach individuals with important mental health education and to connect them with support services. Depression is a serious medical illness that can sometimes lead to suicide in extreme cases. Too often people with depression believe the way they are feeling is perfectly fine and they should just accept it. But feeling hopeless and deprived of all energy isn’t a way of life. Mental Health America does a wonderful job at explaining why screening for depression can be beneficial as well as offers an in depth explanation of depression, how its other symptoms may present and how it can affect other mental conditions you may have.
Where Can I Get Screened?
It can be difficult at first finding a reliable website for screening. But Mental Health American has a great test that is free, quick, confidential, and scientifically validated. Also, The Anxiety and Depression Association of America has a reliable test that allows you to print off results which you then can take to your healthcare provider so they can see the results.
In addition to these resources we also strongly encourage therapy. Here at Mathews Counseling, we are here to help you whenever you need us.
At Mathews Counseling, all of our therapists are highly qualified with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a mental health field, licensed by a state board, and experienced in the areas listed on their bios. We are sure there are a number of other questions you may have with regards to starting therapy and we are happy to answer any of them.
