7 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO STOP OVERTHINKING ANXIETY on PsychCentral
I’ve talked to numerous clients over the last week about the “churning” nature of their anxious thoughts. It’s as if those thoughts play on a loop over and over again in their head. PsychCentral discusses 7 helpful and practical ways to stop overthinking.
THE NUMBER ONE THINGS COUPLES FIGHT ABOUT on The Good Men Project
I often get asked about the #1 thing couples fight about. But according to Dr. Gottman, love guru, it does not matter what couples fight about. What matters is how they fight and the negative emotions it cause us to focus on. “Negative events will always happen in relationships, but that isn’t what turns us into cellmates. Relationships fail when the Story of Us is focused on the problems partners create, not the love partners offer.” This article offers a great explanation of how to focus on the love that is present.
This one is an oldie but a goodie. Brene Brown is one of our favorites. If you have never seen her explain empathy, I recommend you watch this now. It breakdown an essential emotion in relationships and offers a simple way to show empathy to others. Plus it features an adorable bear-fox friendship.
MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Victor E. Frankl
Our book recommendation of the week is this classic by psychiatrist and Nazi death camp survivor Victor Frankl. His memoir of his experience in four different concentration camps as well as his work with his patients discuss the purpose of suffering and how we can find meaning in it. Man’s Search For Meaning has regularly been named among the most influential books in America. If you have not read this seminal work, it is well worth your time.
Have an awesome weekend!
